Numbers 1-10

This week we are reviewing numbers 1-10. The first activity that we are doing goes with Anno's Counting Book.

We used unifix cubes to tell the story. The students really like to see how the pictures progress.
To reinforce the story and numbers we did a hands on activity.
The materials needed are: manipulatives (10 for each child), counting mat and ten frame counting cards.
The students turn the cards face down and choose one. Then they place the correct number of manipulatives on their counting mat. My students were telling me that they had 3 birds and 4 children, then we discussed that had 7 total. It was a great way to reinforce counting, number recognition and math talk.

Five Senses!!

My students love exploring their five senses!
Today we explored with touching. For rough we used sand, for bumpy we used a sticker that was bumpy.
Next we used a sequin for smooth, a bean was used for hard and a cotton ball for soft. They loved touching the materials and were using the different vocabulary, it was fun!!
Here is the pack that I use for my five senses unit:

More pics to come as we explore our senses!!

The kids are finally tasting the popcorn. They waited patiently while we explored hearing, smelling, seeing and feeling.

Here is some of my students work, they loved the popcorn tasting activity!!
As a review we labeled our five senses

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Acvities

My students and I love this story!! After reading it we spelled our name with letters and built it on our coconut tree. Then we wrote our name and counted the letters we had in our name.

Our class made a coconut tree with our names on it. Each child had a set of letters from the alphabet and built there name. We then hung it on our tree outside of our class!! The kids loved this activity.
To add to our chicka chicka boom boom activities we made this fun tree! We built our name and counted the letters!! I purchased this activity from http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Chicka-Chicka-Boom-Boom-Display-ActivitiesTeachers-AidHomeschool-Pack-717240. This packet had several great activities to go along with the story.
